Reproduction stainless body panels using 3D printing

After seeing a thread on the other forum, I thought I'd bring it up here.

3D printing of metal parts has been happening for some time now. It is not perfect yet, but with enough time and refinement, parts will be able to be made with the even better levels of strength and cosmetic finish as conventionally produced parts.

One company that stands out is Arcam AB (http://www.arcam.com). They're a small company, but have huge potential since they are focused on producing parts in metal from the (additive) 3D printing process.

Someone (on the other forum) asked about 3D printing of the stainless body panels. He was then told by a forum administrator, "If you want a non-metal panel, sure." I found this very ignorant.

Some of you may be thinking, "But what's the big deal, MattDavid? He didn't know." I'll tell you. Let's just say he had been paying attention when Arcam AB went public about one year ago. He saw that this company was 3D printing in METAL, and knew that this was the future of manufacturing - so much so that he sold his DeLorean and invested $20,000 into the company. At that time, the stock price was $11/share, so he would have had 1,818 shares. So, he sits on those shares for about a year, and then sells them all. Guess what he has now...$276,608.70. Not bad for a year's time! Check it out: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ta?s=AMAV...l&q=l&p=&a=&c=

    Pays to pay attention.

I would like a 3d printed binnacle. plastic is fine for that. I can't take credit for the idea though, it actually came from Tom Neiland.
Now we’ve had just ‘bout enough of that !

I'd be tempted to replace all my body panels with plastic ones, wrap them in tin foil, and then tell everyone that it IS an aluminum car.
