View Full Version : Driver door hitting vin plate shelf.

Awhile ago my driver door would get stuck when closed. I had to remove the front lock. Also the torsion bar is pretty weak right now and I'd rather let a specialist take care of that.
But when I close the driver door (front lock still out) it has been hitting where the vin plate is. And it's all beat up. The door sometimes doesn't close all the way and requires and extra bit of muscle to close. It open just fine but you can see the door shift forward when it closes correctly.

I'm assuming this from people close the door by pressing down on the front of it rather than the middle to rear.
Is there anyway I can fix this? I've tried to bend the door a little but doesn't seem to matter.

Check your roof cage.

Is there a "how to" on that?
I'm not sure I understand what to look for, or at excatly...

If it's beating up the VIN plate, then I'd think that it's closing too far/tight.

Have you tried adjusting the striker pins to raise the position of the door when the latches catch the pins?

See if this is happening:

I didn't pull off the cover... however the mentioning about the louvers hitting the T top, and some of the other signs are there. I read through but dont feel comfortable doing that particular work. Anyone live near Wilkes-Barre/Scranton PA lol?
I can make a drive out too!

I'm going to attempt to attempt to upload some pictures.
One is of the gap I have after shutting the door, however the latch does catch it.
I also will try to post pictures of the cowl off the torsion bars and VIN plate

Hmmm won't let me from my phone. I'll have to try again from my laptop

I did notice I have a creeking noise when closing the door. The torsion bar is against the rear door hindge on the driver door.
Ugh. Looks like the cage is the problem.
