Here is my problem. I used to use Windows Movie Maker for editing video. My old camera stored video as mpeg files and Movie Maker was perfect for this. I didn't use it for anything fancy. I just used it to trim down video clips and to merge clips together.

I have a new camera that stores video in the mp4 format. Unfortunately, Windows Movie Maker does not handle the mp4 format. Is there a way to make Movie Maker handle mp4 files or is their a similar product I can use on Windows XP?

Thanks guys.

Convert the files to MPG (or WMV). Internet is full of video converter freeware. I use Freecorder to both capture and convert mine:

Older version: http://applian.com/files/FreecorderSetup222.exe
Newer version: http://freecorder.com/

Usually, I just go onto Download.com and search the free programs for the one that has the best user ratings / reviews.

The light version of light works is free. The pro version is free in demo mode for 30 days.
